All I Want for Christmas ...

… is a World Cruise. On my ‘bucket list’ is seeing the world via cruise ship. With an 11 year old and a 9 year old that is not going to happen this year. But it is still fun to think about the possibilities.

A typical world cruise is a 100+ day voyage generally in one direction, east or west. Historically, the isolated nature of these exotic itineraries meant years of planning for people with nothing but time and money on their hands. But these cruises have some great prices and can be an excellent value for what you get.

"That long on a ship!" ...some will say. Many people have a favorite place or condo they go to for months to get away from the cold. With a cruise...the stateroom stays the same but the view always changes. There are few people with condos in Florida for the winter that have a butler, a room steward, non-stop entertainment, and fabulous food prepared for them daily. Even with the many days onboard, for some it might just take 2 weeks just to start to relax!

World cruisers know how to enjoy the quiet and relaxing days at sea. They make the most of the wonderful entertainment, fun parties, fabulous lecturers and lavish service while onboard. Some enjoy the solitude and the luxury of doing just exactly what they want to do. Being a golfer I would take the opportunity to golf all over the world! They enjoy meeting new cruisers and sitting with friends in the restaurant over lunch or afternoon tea. The personal connection on these voyages can be amazing – everyone becomes family. Exotic World locations are at your fingertips!

The cruise I like is on the Pacific Princess - a conveniently small but accommodating vessel that carries about 700 passengers. This cruise embarks from Fort Lauderdale, heads west through the Panama Canal, visits Tahiti and the South Pacific, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and Dubai. She then sails through the Suez Canal and visits Cairo, Jerusalem, Istanbul, and Athens. The cruise officially ends in Venice, Italy, which means you see more ports of call in your 107 days than if you had to cross the Atlantic just to say you went around the world.

If you are thinking of a World Cruise, go while you can!  You will make many wonderful friends among fellow World cruisers. There will be special parties, exclusive complimentary shore excursions offered by the cruise line just for those doing the full World Cruise.  It wasn't all that long ago when there were barely computers onboard to use.  Now you can stay connected to your friends and family from the far corners of the world. When you send letters home, you are your friends and families "eyes and ears" of places that they may never ever see.

Happy Cruising !!
