Hawaiian Romance

Our 15th wedding anniversary is coming up and on our list of places to visit is Hawaii.  With two active boys it will be a bit hard to getaway alone to Hawaii but it is nice to dream!  I was there many years ago and is truly an exotic romantic place perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or just a vacation with your loved one.  There are many romantic things to do from snorkeling with turtles, viewing a sunrise from the top of a dormant volcano, a drive down the road to Hana, or just relaxing on the white sands of the Pacific.  I have listed some of Hawaii’s most romantic properties:

Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages:
Spread over nearly 30 acres in a coconut grove on Kauai’s South Shore, this property is a true romantic Hawaiian resort and excellent value for the money.   The oceanfront hotel offers a sense of seclusion and serenity, with broad lawns, bonfire pits, expansive porches with comfortable chairs, and hammocks hanging from trees, as well as a pool, spa, restaurant and volleyball courts.

Fairmont Kea Lani:
This all-suite hotel on Maui boasts bedrooms with French doors and bathrooms with large marble soaking-tubs and open walk-in showers—great amenities for couples. Set on Polo Beach in the Wailea area, the Fairmont Kea Lani recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation. Each of the hotel’s 413 one-bedroom suites features a private lanai.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu:
Set on the Kona-Kohala Coast, the Four Seasons Hualalai is the only Big Island resort that has received the AAA Five Diamond and the Forbes Five Star award. Among the resort’s highlights are fabulous service, snorkeling in the King’s Pond (a private lava lagoon) and outdoor showers in some of the guestrooms.   The outdoor lava-rock showers are available in some of the lower-level guestrooms and suites, which also offer their own gardens.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea:
While the Four Seasons Maui offers luxury and serenity, it’s also a fitting resort for active couples.  It also has a dive shop, where guests can get their tanks and equipment and go diving and snorkeling right from the beach.  The hotel recently opened an adults-only pool area with private cabanas, underwater speakers for music and a swim-up bar.

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa:
Fresh off of a multimillion-dollar guestroom renovation that features a classic Hawaiian design, this sprawling property on Kauai’s dry, southern coast conveys a bygone era.  The resort features Hawaiian traditional throwbacks in the décor so guests know they’re in Hawaii.  In the evening, the lagoons have sitting areas and tiki torches, so you feel like you’re a million miles from everyone else.  The resort has acres of lazy rivers, pools, a manmade waterfall, and a manmade saltwater lagoon for snorkeling, kayaking and swimming.

Makena Beach and Golf Resort:
This 310-room property, the former Maui Prince hotel, recently underwent a transformation and a rebranding by the same management company that operates the Kahala Hotel on Oahu.  The Asian-inspired hotel, which sits on 1,300 acres, is the last hotel on the western coast, so you’re not surrounded by other properties, although you’re 10 minutes away from all of the hotels and attractions of Wailea.   This resort has spectacular views from the beach and a local staff that’s been there for years.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel:
This property on the Big Island’s Kohala Coast boasts a one of the most gorgeous beaches and sunset in the world, which you can see from your balcony.  Guests also can see whales from their rooms from November through mid-May. Guests staying in deluxe oceanview rooms can even see the ocean from their showers.

St. Regis Princeville:
Situated on Kauai’s North Shore with views of Hanalei Bay, the St. Regis Princeville is the focal point of the 9,000-acre planned resort community of Princeville. The St. Regis overlooks Makana Point (“Bali Hai” in the movie “South Pacific”).  The resort offers a sunset cruise that goes out from the peninsula into Hanalei Bay, which can be booked for a private charter. Couples also can explore the bay via a private canoe. And it’s fine dining restaurant, the Kauai Grill, features Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s French- and Asian-influenced cuisine.

Happy Cruising!
