With ships being floating resorts and with so much to do, we are asked this question a lot and for the most part our answer is YES. We started cruising many many years ago with an inside stateroom (no windows) then graduated to an ocean view, and finally to a balcony. Ever since we have sailed in a balcony it is very hard to sail in any other type of stateroom. I look forward to the day we can try a two deck Sky Loft on some Royal Caribbean ships! Here are some benefits for sailing in a balcony stateroom…
Better and Private Views
The biggest advantage to having a balcony is that you have a nice, big doorway to the outside world. There is no denying how wonderful it can be to have the panoramic view of the Caribbean, Alaska, or Europe right outside your stateroom. Or how soothing it is to have the ocean sounds wafting into your cabin as you sleep. Being able to just step outside on our Alaska cruise onto the balcony to see whales, glaciers, bears, and puffins was amazing and priceless.
It is nice to be able to lay out on the pool deck with a lounge chair and get some sun, but sometimes the pool deck can get a little too busy and crowded. It is nice to be able to go back to your own private stateroom and put your feet up where no one can bother you where you can read a book, catch up on social media, or just take a nap.
Breathtaking Sunrises and Sunsets
One of my favorite things to do on a cruise balcony is to enjoy room service breakfast while watching the sunrise with loved ones. Equally romantic is watching the sunset with a glass of fine wine. Whatever your tastes may be, staring off into the distance from the comfort of a private balcony is always a pleasure.
Extended and More Space
It is nice to have that extra and extended space, especially if you are sailing with younger children this can make a huge difference. We used this a lot when the boys were younger. Having a balcony is so convenient; when the kids are napping you can read your book outside and enjoy the beautiful sunshine and terrific view. Also with more than two people in a stateroom you also have a bit of extra room while everyone is getting ready for the day or for dinner.
Happy Cruising!
