A friendly bet ....

A few years ago in a prior life I made a friendly bet with a co-worker that I could convince him that taking a 7 Night Caribbean cruise would be cheaper than a long weekend in New York.  "No way in Heck" were his exact words.  Being the ornery fellow that he is I thought this might have been a harder task than I originally thought. I wanted to share that same comparison with some updated numbers - you be the judge!  For a random week in January:

New York City:

4 Nights Marriott Times Square = $1200
4 Hotel Breakfast = $100
4 Quick Lunches = $100
4 Nice Dinners = $400
Weekend Taxi Transportation = $100
2 Broadway Shows = $600
1 Night of Music Entertainment = $100
1 Night Comedy Club = $75

Total for New York = $2675  Per Person per day = $335

Oasis of The Seas - Royal Caribbean
Depart Fort Lauderdale - Western Caribbean

7 Nights Oceanview Stateroom = $2100
Gratuities = $140
Breakfast = INCLUDED
Lunch = INCLUDED
Dinner = INCLUDED
Room Service = INCLUDED
Full Production of Hairspray = INCLUDED
Comedy Shows = INCLUDED
ZipLine = INCLUDED
Surfing on FlowRider = INCLUDED
Aquatheater Show = INCLUDED

Total Oasis = $2240  Per Person per day = $160

"You have got to be kidding me" he barked.  He originally doubted my numbers so the next day I brought in some hard copies to back up my data.  "I guess I owe you a lunch ... you should sell cruises!" he conceded. A fore shadowing of things to come.  So when comparing any vacation be sure to include all possible costs. You might be surprised that the option you thought was cheaper ends up being more expensive.

Happy Cruising !
